Visiting Scholar Grants
Please submit a proposal to host visiting scholars (professors, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows) from partner institutions, or from institutions that have a significant potential to become institutional partners with the University of Alberta.
Proposals must include the following:

Supporting statement from the Chair or Dean

Purpose of visit, including expected outcomes

Date of proposed visit and length of stay

Budget
Hosting departments are expected to make all necessary arrangements for the visiting scholars, including:

Letter of invitation

Local arrangements (accommodation, banking, ONEcard, human resources paperwork, office space)
Terms of funding:

Funding will be given directly to the Department to disburse to the visitor

Allocation of funding will be dependent on the length of stay to a maximum of $2500 per month

Funding can be used for travel to Canada and for local living expenses

It is the responsibility of the visitor to obtain health insurance for the term of the visit

It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain all required ethics approvals in advance for research involving human subjects and/or animals

A report following the visit must be submitted to the China Institute within 1 month of the end of the visit

Unused funds must be returned to the China Institute
Review Process:

Academic staff members that have already received substantial grants from the China Institute within the past year will not be eligible

All applications will be screened by the China Institute. A peer-review process will provide the China Institute with recommendations

The review process will take up to three weeks.
