Academic Travel Grants
Travel grants of up to $2,500 are available to full-time academic staff members. Please submit an application form for academic travel grants directly to the China Institute for consideration.
Applications must include the following:
Initiatives considered:

Travel to China to attend conferences that are beneficial to academic exchanges between the University of Alberta and relevant Chinese institutions and that promote understanding between Canada and China

Travel to China to meet with partner institutions to initiate a specific project or projects that could provide opportunities for University of Alberta-China cooperation, and potential funding from other sources

Travel to China for research collaboration on existing projects that are already being funded by other sources

Expenses that will be covered include:

A report following the visit to be submitted to the China Institute within 1 month of the travel dates

Travel expense claims will be prepared by the China Institute following the submission of original receipts

Grants must be used in the fiscal year that they are approved
Review Process:

Academic staff members that have already received substantial grants within the last year from the China Institute will not be eligible

Academic staff members will only be considered for one travel grant per year

All applications will be screened by the China Institute

A peer-review process will provide the China Institute with recommendations

The review process will take up to six weeks
Applications will be accepted three times yearly

For travel between April-July – applications to be submitted by February 1 st

For travel between August-November – applications to be submitted by June1 st

For travel between December-March – applications to be submitted by October 1 st
